Lok Sabha President Om Birla unveiled the first statue of Swami Vivekananda in Latin America at a university in Mexico on Saturday, according to an official statement.

Om Birla led an Indian parliamentary delegation to Mexico.

Unveiling the statue at the Autonomous State University of Hidalgo in Mexico, he said Vivekananda’s teachings and personality had inspired people not only in India but all over the world, according to the statement from the Lok Sabha Secretariat. .

He also referred to Vivekananda’s speech at the 1893 World Parliament of Religions in Chicago and said that he displayed the characteristics of Indian culture beautifully in his speech.

In a series of tweets later, Om Birla said, “Swami-ji’s message and teachings to humanity transcend geographical barriers and time. His message is addressed to all humanity. Today, as we unveil her bust in Mexico, we pay our humble respects. to him (sic).”

“Honored to unveil a statue of Swami Vivekananda in Mexico. This is the first statue of Swami-ji in Latin America. The statue will be an inspiration to people, especially young people in the region, to struggle and bring about change. that will take their country to a new top tier,” he said.
