Aurangabad, September 7:

Municipal Commissioner and Administrator of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), Abhijeet Chaudhari inspected the vertical gardens and street fountains (under construction and development to reduce the threat of air pollution prevailing in the city ), to commemorate the International Day of Clean Air for Sky Blue (September 7).

It can be noted that vertical gardens are mainly built on nullahs and places attracting dust in large quantities. Therefore, the civic leader visited the Bhagwan Mahavir Chowk Flyover, Nageshwarwadi and the AMC headquarters (town hall) and inspected the vertical gardens. He also inspected the street fountain at Bhagwan Mahavir Chowk.

The AMC has been granted aid of Rs 1 crore under the central government’s 15th Finance Commission to undertake measures to improve air quality in the city under the National Clean Air Program (NCAP ). CMA is using the fund to build vertical gardens in 10 different locations.

Rs 5 crore spent on fountains

CMA has also secured funding from the Center to undertake other initiatives to improve air quality. Hence, AMC is also constructing street fountains at prominent squares and circles by spending Rs 3 crore. The contractor will have to maintain them for the next three years. Street fountains will rise at Damdi Mahal, N-1 near Pyramid, N-2 Kamgar Chowk, Ashok Stambh opposite Dhoot Hospital, Cidco Flyover opposite Vasantrao Naik Statue, Ekta Chowk at Shahnoormiyan Dargah, Bhagwan Mahaveer Chowk and old Mondha Chowk.
