
The city’s Ramakrishna Math celebrates its 75th anniversary in service to humanity
Mangaluru: Briefing the media during a press meet, Swami Jitakamanandaji, the President of Ramakrishna Math, Mangaluru said: “About 125 years ago, in 1897, Swami Vivekananda established Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission at Belur in Howrah in West Bengal. With the motto given by Swamiji, “Atmano Mokshartham Jagaddhita Cha – For self-realization and for the welfare of the world”, these institutions have realized Swamiji’s vision through hundreds of branches all over the world. It was the blessed privilege of the Mangaloreans that a branch of Ramakrishna Math was established in the city of Mangaluru through the urging of the public on 03-06-1947″.
Swami added, “As the nation celebrates the 75th anniversary of freedom Ramakrishna Math, Mangaluru is also celebrating its 75th anniversary of service to humanity. Since its inception, the Ashrama has endeavored to uplift the religious, spiritual and cultural masses through multiple activities. He has carved out a special place for himself and guides thousands of devotees with the necessary advice”.
“Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru, the sister institution of Ramakrishna Math also strives to ensure the welfare of society through its social and philanthropic activities, such as running a free hostel offering accommodation, free accommodation and educational facilities to hundreds of deserving students from rural areas, regardless of caste, creed or religion. Vivekananda Coaching Center offers value-based coaching to deserving students from nearby areas and helps them by providing educational facilities and scholarships to fend for themselves. It also organizes seminars, conventions and workshops for students, teachers and professionals on values, ethics and various aspects of personality development,” added Swami Jitakamanandaji.
Swami concluded by saying, “Over the past 6-7 years, Swacch Mangalore Abhiyan made by Ramakrishna Mission, Mangalore has captured the hearts of Mangaloreans. Thousands of volunteers, regardless of status, caste, creed or religious background, were instrumental in the success of this Abhiyan. Sunday Shramadan, door to door campaign, Swachh Manas program for schoolchildren, Swachh Soch program for students, Swacch Gram Abhiyan in hundreds of villages in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have become models”.
During a briefing on the events/programs organized to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Ramakrishna Math, Swami Ekagamyananda, the organizer of Ramakrishna Math, Mangaluru said, “Mangaluru Ashram will organize Amrita Mahotsava on June 3-4, 2022. Several programs have been planned for this. opportunity. A special puja, Havan marks the start of the celebrations on June 3 at 6:30 a.m. After offering the puja at the Mangaladevi Temple, a procession of Sadhus and devotees led by Srimat Swami Gautamanandaji Maharaj, Vice President of Ramakrishna Math & Mission, Belur Math, West Bengal, will start at 8:45 a.m.
He added, “At 9.15 a.m. the new Ramakrishna Math entrance gate will be inaugurated and at 9.30 a.m. the new Amrita Sadana – Monks Quarters building will be inaugurated. The first stone of the Vivekananda Coaching Center construction project will be laid at 9:45 a.m. Basavarj Bommai, Chief Minister of the Government of Karnataka, will lay the foundation stone for the building. Sri Dayananda Pai of Century Builders will be the special guest. At 10 am on June 3 Amrita Sangama – 2 days The convention of monk-devotees will be inaugurated.

Dr N Vinay Hegde, Hon Chancellor of Nitte University; Premananda Shetty, Honorable Mayor of Mangalore City Corporation; MP Nalin Kumar Kateel; Vedavyas Kamath, MP for Mangalore South; MLC Manjunath Bhandary; Captain Ganesh Karnik; Dr Patil and Chief Postmaster N Rajendra Kumar and Dayananda Pai of Century Builders, Bengaluru will be present on the occasion,” Swami added.
“A special postal envelope will be issued on the occasion and the same will be handed over by the Chief Postmaster General of Karnataka, Rajendra Kumar. A documentary is being made on the activities of the Ashram and will be broadcast by Dr N Vinay Hegde. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel will launch the Ashram’s new website and Swami Muktidanandaji will release the special remembrance on this occasion. About 75 monks from various parts of the country and more than 600 devotees will attend the program. About 18 monks will address the devotees in about 6 sessions spread over 2 days,” Swami Ekagamyananda added.
MCC Mayor Premanand Shetty also praised the Maths for their tremendous service to the city, especially the Mangaluru Swachh Abhiyan campaign. Dilraj Alva, an active Math volunteer was also on stage, and Ranjan Bellarpady, yet another energetic and active Math volunteer, participated in the press briefing.
