HYDERABAD: As part of the celebrations of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Ramakrishna Math, the legal administrative organization of the Order of Ramakrishna, organized a “Love India, Serve India” seminar in Hyderabad on Saturday. During the program, several speakers encouraged the youth to serve India by following the thoughts and principles enunciated by Swami Vivekananda, a renowned Hindu monk, philosopher and author.

Videos of freedom fighters’ struggles and fights against British imperialism were shown to students from different colleges and educational institutions to inspire them. Addressing the gathering, Swami Bodhamayananda, Adhyaksha, Ramakrishna Math (Hyderabad), drew parallels between the lives of freedom fighters and that of Swami Vivekananda. He said India was a prosperous country before the British manipulated and plundered the country’s resources and urged students to focus on rebuilding the future with knowledge of history.

Ram Chandra Sarath, a social worker who runs an ashram in Nellore, said Ramakrishna Math has been a beacon of light guiding disciples on the right path to bring about change in society. “Change and awareness should start in the streets,” he said, adding that the country’s youth should strive to serve the poor and needy.

“The motto ‘Love India and serve India’ was first mentioned by Swami Vivekananda. Through the examples of people who followed this path, we understood that serving the nation does not necessarily mean guarding the border, but we can also do our part by practicing these thoughts,” said S Niveditha, a student at Anurag University .
