Mangaluru Ramakrishna Mutt’s Amrita Mahotsava (Diamond Jubilee) celebrations started here on Friday with special poojas, a procession of Sadhus and other ongoing programs.

Ramakrishna Mutt and Ramakrishna Mission Belur Mutt (India Headquarters) Vice President Sri Gautamananda Swamiji led the celebrations attended by Mangaluru Mutt President Sri Jithakamananda Swamiji, Mutt Head Office Administrator Sri Muktidananda Swamiji, and others. After special poojas at the Mutt, another special pooja was offered at the Sri Mangaladevi temple before a procession of Sadhus back to the Mutt was undertaken in the morning.

The dignitaries then inaugurated the Maha Dwara of Mutt, inaugurated Amrita Sadana [monks quarters] and laid the foundation stone of the Vivekananda Coaching Centre. An official inaugural program was held later attended by, among others, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP D. Vedavyasa Kamath, Chancellor Nite (considered an academic) N. Vinay Hegde and others. The inauguration was followed by a host of sessions by Sadhus. Amrita Mahotsava would culminate on Saturday evening with the Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri, who would attend the same evening.

The Mangaluru Ramakrishna Mutt was established on June 3, 1947, and together with the Ramakrishna Mission has been rendering religious and social services since its inception.
