Mangaluru: A few days ago, reports circulated on social media as well as print and electronic media that seer Bhaveshanand of Ramakrishna Ashram in Karwar expressed his support for lawyer Devadutt Kamat, who is facing a campaign of hate online for portraying three Muslim girls. of Bhandarkar’s College, Kundapur in the hijab case at Karnataka HC. Social media users have accused Kamat of attempting to legitimize a website that spreads hatred against non-Muslims and openly calls for violence against non-believers.

Kamat had cited the website during his arguments in court. Netizens also claimed that Muslim core forces are on the rise in the coastal region and that Kamat is playing a “dangerous game” in supporting the girls, who are said to be provoked by these radical forces. Kamat was also targeted for allegedly comparing the hijab to “nama” (vermilion coated after Sandhya Vandana). In an open letter, Swami Bhaveshanand reiterated that the debate over dress code for Muslim girls in schools/colleges is “unnecessary”. “There are elements trying to portray him as supporting a cause against the Hindu religion,” the seer said. “This perception is absolutely unwarranted and baseless.

“Some media have published a statement by a Swami Bhaveshananda of Shri Ramakrishna Ashram, Karwar, on the recent issue of hijab. There is confusion among the public whether he is a monk of the Ramakrishna Order attached to Ramakrishna Math, Belur Math In this regard, we would like to clarify that the said Swami Bhaveshananda is not a monk of the Ramakrishna Order attached to Ramakrishna Math, Belur Math, and that the said Shri Ramakrishna Ashram is not a branch affiliated with Ramakrishna Math or Ramakrishna Mission, both based in Belur Math”.
