Outraged by SSC Scam, Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission alumni ‘give up’ Partha

The arrest of West Bengal Minister Partha Chatterjee by the Directorate of Law Enforcement and the discovery of mountains of cash and valuables in properties believed to be linked to him has embarrassed some of the former students of the Narendrapur Ramakrishna mission in South 24 Parganas district. Chatterjee has often said that he is an alumnus of the institution and studied there for six years. Some former Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission students told News18 that this was untrue and that the suspended Trinamool Congress leader was only there for a year after which he received a transfer certificate. Debdut Ghosh Thakur, a former journalist and student of Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission, said, “He is not a former student like that. I remember once he claimed during a stage program that he had studied in Narendrapur. After he came off stage, I told him to tell the truth, that he was not really a former student of Narendrapur. We heard he took a TC and didn’t study there for more than a year. WhatsApp groups of Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission alumni were inundated last week with messages expressing outrage over Chatterjee’s claim. The alumni members, in India and abroad, are angry and embarrassed that the name of the institution appears in relation to the so-called SSC scam because of the sacked minister. Another alumnus told News18, “Usually Narendrapur doesn’t give TC but in his case, we heard about it, one was given. It seems that the authorities have understood his true nature. There are two other examples of TCs given in Narendrapur, and these two people are also infamous, for several reasons. As Partha Chatterjee is Minister of National Education, her request was unchallenged except once, sources said. They added that he should not be called an alumnus of Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission. A person can only be considered an alumnus of the institution by studying there up to class 10, or in classes 11 and 12, they argued. Read all the latest and breaking news here
