Mangaluru: National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) Surathkal celebrates ‘Swachhata Pakhwada’, an initiative of the Ministry of Education. It runs from September 1 to 15. The program was inaugurated recently by Swami Ekagamyanandaji of Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru, followed by a workshop on zero waste management by Vasudeva M, Project Researcher, Campus Waste to Energy Project, NITK Surathkal. under the auspices of NITK Sevadal, weekly Swachh Bharat programs have been conducted on the NITK campus by staff, faculty, students and custodial staff, since August 2019. The campus has now completed the 50th week of its initiative of cleaning. In addition, the NITK Surathkal campus community will continue to conduct swachhata activities on campus, with an emphasis on cleanliness awareness among staff and the student community. From September 1 to 15, as part of the program, all departments will carry out innovative cleaning activities in and around campus, aimed at minimizing the waste of drinking water and maintaining cleanliness and high levels of sanitation, which can contribute to a clean and hygienic campus. To make things even more exciting, top departments will receive awards for innovative and creative activities undertaken to improve cleanliness and hygiene on the NITK campus.
