NEP 2020: Pradhan launches Ramakrishna Mission’s “Awakening” program

New Delhi: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has inaugurated the Ramakrishna Mission’s “Awakening” program for students in grades 1-5, the ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

This “Enlightenment” program is an initiative to ensure the holistic development of a child’s personality in accordance with the philosophy of the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020.

Speaking on the occasion, Pradhan said that the NEP 2020 is deeply inspired by the philosophy of Swami Vivekananda, adding that India’s great names such as Sri Aurobindo, Mahatma Gandhi, Vivekananda envision a progressive education system rooted in civilizational values ​​to take over the country. forward.

According to the ministry, Pradhan said social transformation is one of the main goals of education. Values ​​and wisdom are more important than material wealth. Values-based education is important to build a future-ready and socially conscious generation, he added.

When implementing NEP 2020, emphasis should be placed on creating values-based educational programs for grades 9-12, in addition to those for grades 1-8.

Pradhan said the initiative is a step towards the holistic development of a child’s personality aligned with the philosophy of NEP 2020.

The Minister called on the CBSE to institute a consultative framework to encourage values-based education in all schools, from Balvatika to Class XII, to create a pool of talent ready to meet life’s challenges and engaged in national progress and global well-being.
