New Delhi, Sep 15 (PTI) Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday called on the CBSE to institute a consultative framework to encourage values-based education in schools to create a pool of talents ready to meet life’s challenges and committed to national progress and global well-being. Noting that the education system must be aligned with national priorities, Pradhan said that social transformation is one of the main goals of education and that values-based education is important to build a ready future generation.

He made the comments while launching Ramakrishna Mission’s “Awakening” program for students in grades I-V.

“I have requested the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) to institute a consultative framework to encourage values-based education in all schools from Balvatika to Class XII to create a pool of talent ready to meet life’s challenges and committed to national and global progress.

“The National Education Policy (NEP) is deeply inspired by the philosophy of Swami Vivekananda. From Swami Vivekananda to Sri Aurobindo and Mahatma Gandhi, many of our greats envisioned a progressive education system rooted in our civilizational values to advance the country. .

“Social transformation is one of the main goals of education. Values and wisdom are more important than material wealth. Values-based education is important in building a future-ready and socially conscious generation “, he added.

Pradhan further stated that the Ramakrishna mission has a tradition of imparting applied education.

“As we implement NEP 2020, it must also emphasize creating such values-based educational programs for grades 9 to 12 in addition to creating programs for grades 1 to 8.

“Our education system must be aligned with national priorities. We must create 21st century citizens capable of taking on global responsibilities. NEP 2020, which emphasizes a holistic, teacher-led education system for students, is a step in that direction,” he added.
