Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav! With the theme “FREEDOM”, a special seminar dedicated to Swami Vivekananda to mark the 75th Independence Day was organized by Ramakrishna Math, Mangaluru on Tuesday July 12, 2022 Mangaluru: Ramakrishna Mission/Math, Mangaluru in his effort to enlighten the generation on the importance of freedom, organized a Special Seminar on Tuesday, July 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Swami Vivekananda Auditorium, on the occasion of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The program began with Vedic chanting, followed by welcome speech and introduction of the dignitaries on the dais by Capt Ganesh Karnik, a former Indian Army soldier. Captain Karnik said, “This is indeed a unique double celebration, where we are celebrating 75 years of Indian independence, as well as 75 years of Ramakrishna Mission in Mangaluru. On the occasion of the 75th Independence Day, India has taken the initiative to organize various programs to sensitize the public, especially the youth, about the freedom of India and the role of freedom fighters who risked their lives to liberate us from the hands of the British. It is pleasant to note that a large number of students have gathered here, to learn the history of Indian independence”. “Remember that you, students, are the future leaders of the country. You must learn and read the history of India, and not spend your precious hours and days browsing internet, mobile phones, whatsapp, instagram etc. which is just a waste of time and of energy. Even though we got independence, how many of you are independent? Stop wasting time talking on cellphones, WhatsApp, etc., instead get involved in activities, develop your personality, create something new and learn something new, so you can become great people and great leaders, and make a difference,” added Capt Garnik. In his opening speech, Swami Jitakamananda, the mission secretary of Ramakrishna, Mangaluru said, “Our sacred homeland is a land of religion and philosophy. most of modern times the highest ideal of life has opened up to man. Our work depends on the advent of the India of the future. She is there ready to wait. She only sleeps” with these words, Swami Vivekananda issued an inspiring call to awaken the masses of India to build our nation. The program was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by Principal Guest Mangaluru South MLA D. Vedavyasa Kamath in the presence of President Math Jithakamananda Swami, MLC Manjunath Bhandary, Former MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik, Dr. Jayakara Bhandary- Principal, Govt First Grade College, Car Street, Mangaluru; Today’s speakers – Air Vice Marshal K Ramesh Karnik, Dr. Ganesh Amin Sankamar, Anindith Gowda Kochi Baaarike and Prof. Raghothama Rao K. . India has a lot to achieve despite its tremendous progress in all aspects of life over the past 75 years. The mission had long focused on young people and used the Mahotsav for an intensified approach. You, students, are the future pillars of India, you have a great role to play in the development of India. Don’t waste time on unwanted things, instead focus on developing innovative ideas and projects, and build that strong nation. You are the future of India, and India depends on you”. MLC Dr Manjunath Bhandary said, “Remember these three things: FREEDOM, FREEDOM and INDEPENDENCE. It is everyone’s duty to know the history of India and its liberation from the British. India is a great country with its diversity, culture and traditions, and young people should follow them and not neglect them. Be a responsible Indian and play a vital role in the development of India”. On the occasion, Air Vice Marshal Ramesh Karnik was congratulated, after which he spoke of “Revisiting India’s Freedom Movement”; Raghothama Rao (Chairman, Seek Foundation, Bengaluru, who spoke on “Freedom Is Not Free;” Ganesh Amin Sankamar (Organizer, Brahmasri Narayana Guru Study Chair, Mangalore University, and former professor at St Aloysius College, Mangaluru, who spoke on “Rani Abbakka in Freedom Struggle” and Anindita Gowda (a young author) spoke on “Amar Sullia – The Forgotten Story of Freedom” The vote of thanks was offered by Dr Jayakara Bhandary, while the The program was eloquently performed by Mrs. Smitha Shenoy, a Ramakrishna mathematician, volunteer and teacher at Besant Womens’ College, Mangaluru.
