By: Mahiyan Chakrabarti Adamas University recently organized Vigyan Utsav, through a workshop on “Harnessing the Socio-Economic Benefits of IPRs: Role of Higher Education Institutions”. towards the celebration of 75 years of independence of India and 25 years of celebration of the establishment of the Patent Information Center, with the State Council of Science and Technology of West Bengal, Department of Science and Technology and Biotechnology in association with E-YUVA Center, Adamas University, Supported by BIRAC, Govt. from India. More than 120 participants from over 50 institutions of higher learning, including universities, engineering colleges and degrees, took part in the one-day event, with the virtual presence of Hon. Shri Ujjal Biswas, minister responsible for science, technology and biotechnology, government. of West Bengal, Sri Rajesh Sinha, Principal Secretary Mr. Sudpa Porel, Joint Secretary, Department of Science and Technology and Biotechnology, Govt. of West Bengal, Prof. Samit Ray, Chancellor, Adamas University, Prof. Manas Sanyal, Vice-Chancellor, Kalyani University, Sarvottamananda ji Maharaj, Vice-Chancellor, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute, Prof. Anuradha Mukhopadhyay, Vice Chancellor, The Deependra Kr Jha, Vice Chancellor of Adamas University graced the occasion. Dr. Debapriya Dutta, Scientist G and Head of SEED Division of DST, Govt. of India, Dr Yashwant Deb Parmar, Scientist-F, TIFAC, Govt. of India and many others who addressed the assembly. Several innovators and entrepreneurs presented their innovation for which patents have been filed or granted. The West Bengal GI was also showcased by the artisans which included dokra, madur, cabbage and more. The program consisted of an inaugural session followed by a panel discussion on “the role of CIOs in promoting innovation and entrepreneurship” and “technology transfer and incentive policy for educational institutions superior and public”. MIC Mr. Ujjal Biswas, Mr. Sinha, Mr. Porel, Prof. Ray, Chancellor, Adamas University and Prof Jha expressed their thoughts on the subject, and all panelists expressed their views and concluded by emphasizing the role of IPRs in education. institutions through increased awareness, promotion of innovators, flexibility in the IPR application process, appropriate incentive mechanism and mutual ownership.
