A man crushed by Shatabdi in Zirakpur

An unidentified man was run over by the Shatabdi Express near the Dhakoli railway gate at around 9pm on Friday. Police say the deceased, who appeared to be 35, was walking on the train tracks when he was hit by the train. He was dressed in a blue shirt and jeans, but carried no ID. The body was kept in the morgue of Dera Bassi Civil Hospital for 72 hours for identification.

AICC reorganizes its social media department

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has appointed NJK Tejesh as Chairman of the Social Media Department of the Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee. The AICC also approved the appointment of six State Coordinators Vishal Jadhav, Harshith Kumar, Hunar Chaudhary, Guddu Yadav and Aditya Vikram Singh. Tejesh, originally from Andhra Pradesh, studies law at the University of Panjab.

Improve the old-age pension to 2,000: the social protection committee reiterates the request

The UT administration’s Welfare Committee has again demanded that its resolution to increase the old age, widow’s and invalid’s pension to at least 2,000 per month be approved immediately. Approximately 25,000 families will benefit from this increase. The committee had met under the chairmanship of former MP and Additional Solicitor General of India Satya Pal Jain, who noted that the recommendation made two years ago is still awaiting approval.

PEC celebrates “NSS Day”

The main objective of the industry-university meeting was the creation of interface clubs, comprising people from industry and academia who will be called interface champions. These interface clubs will meet the industrial challenges and needs of this particular technological field. Academia also described technologies ready for transfer to industry.

The CRIKC organizes 3 workshops at GMSH, Sector 22

The Innovation and Knowledge Cluster of Chandigarh Region (CRIKC), Igniting Young Minds, an initiative to nurture scientific temperament through social awareness among students, held three workshops at Government Model High School on Saturday ( GMHS), sector 22. The Department of Physics of the University of Panjab organized a workshop on ray optics for the students of class 10. Practical demonstrations were also offered to them. The UP Department of Biology hosted a mentorship workshop to generate project ideas for the National Congress of Childhood Science for junior and senior level students.

The fire and security organization organizes a seminar

Chandigarh: The Fire and Security Association of India (FSAI) held an exhibition and seminar in Sector 17 on Saturday. Chandigarh Chapter President Surinder Bahga said the association is working with many educational institutions of the city to raise awareness of fire safety. Mayor Sarabjit Kaur was the main guest. Ajay Duggal of the National Technical Teacher Training and Research Institute emphasized proper design, execution and maintenance of roads to avoid accidents. “Inspire” prize: three city students rewarded

Three students from different schools in the city were awarded the “Inspire” – MANAK (million minds increasing national aspirations and knowledge) award for their innovative ideas at the ninth national-level project exhibition and competition which took place held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on September 14. The winners are Amandeep Singh from Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS) Sector-35 for Smart Gas Stove, Sachchit Kumar Sharma from KBDAV School, Sector 7 for Sensor Drowning Warning and Arryan Madhu Chitkara of Chitkara International School, Sector 25 for the Communicator Mask. Five students were selected by the State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT) to participate in the national-level event. They received trophies and certificates from Dr. Jitender Singh, Union Minister of State, Ministry of Science and Technology and Earth Sciences.

The director of PGI inaugurates two modernized services

The director of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Dr. Vivek Lal, on Saturday inaugurated two inaugurated services – an air conditioner and a 5 kW solar panel at the Sector 12 community center and an office maintenance in the sector 24. The upgrade of the community center for the use of the cost of ERP personnel 60.16 lakh, while the upgraded maintenance office which will cater for about 550 PGI staff quarters in Sector 24 costs 28.12 million.

PGI celebrates the anniversary of the 1st coronary angioplasty

The Cardiology Department at PGI marked the anniversary of the first coronary angioplasty performed by Dr. Andreas Gruntzig on September 16, 1977. The operation was performed on a 38-year-old patient. PGIMER’s Advanced Cardiac Center, Chandigarh is reputed to have one of the lowest mortality rates in acute cardiogenic shock and acute coronary syndrome.

Endocrinology Graduate Meeting

The Chandigarh chapter of the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes India (RSSDI) invited alumni of endocrinology to a lecture on Thursday. About 70% of endocrinology alumni attended the meeting. Head Professor of the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Sanjay Bhadada, said the conference was an important event for diabetes as well as bone and mineral metabolism.

Yoga College Orientation Program

An orientation was held for the Bachelor of Education, Graduate Diploma in Yoga Therapy and a Basic Certificate in Yoga Education course was held at the Government College of Yoga Education and Health on Saturday. Principal Dr. Sapna Nanda hosted Chief Guest Swami Anupma Anand of the Ramakrishna Mission. The program began with the Saraswati Vandana and lamplighting ceremony. Anand encouraged the students to follow the path of yoga wholeheartedly and follow the principles of Swami Vivekanand as well. UT kicks off two-week World Tourism Day celebration

The Chandigarh Tourism Department kicked off the two-week World Tourism Day celebrations on Saturday. The theme of the celebrations is “Rethinking Tourism”. A three-day yoga competition was held in the morning and self-defense demonstrations were given at Sukhna Lake in the evening at Sukhna Lake and Shivalik Garden, Manimajra. A ‘tourism race’, quiz contest and arts festival for the inclusion of children and young adults with disabilities were also held between the lake and the Capitol complex, the Government Museum and the Gallery of art, respectively.
